Body
I started off with very little running knowledge and had gained some weight in my 30's and became dedicated to losing it. A friend told me running was the best way to lose weight and about Hal's website. With a better diet and exercises and after losing 50 pounds, I went all in the with a beginner half plan in 2009 around 1:45 finish which I was happy with, then intermediate marathon 3:19 in 2010. It seemed that qualifying for Boston may not be impossible after all. At the beginning it definitely looked like there was no way I could qualify for Boston. But after my first marathon I was hooked. Ran a few more marathons then tried the advanced plan after a few more races and finally qualified for Boston in 3:09 in 2012 at Disney. Finally ran Boston in 2:59 sticking to Hals training plan in 2015. Also ran a 1:21 in 2015 only doing the exact distance and time recs in the advanced half plan. Now at 44 and faster than ever shooting for sub 1:20 in the half and still using the basic outline, and really only adding in a few warmup, cool down miles, and always resting on Fridays. I did try a few other training plans over the years, but they had more miles, got injured plenty of times, so I'm always coming back to Hal's plans for the best results with just the right amount of miles and intensity. Thanks Hal!!
