More Training
There are many reasons to train outside of the marathon, half-marathon, and common short distances. For experienced runners, you may be looking ahead to Triathlons and Ultramarathons. Others may be interested in Base Training, Fitness Walking, or continuing to meet your training goals when rough weather strikes. This “More Training” section is a collection of popular programs that do not fall neatly into any particular race distance on the site. Hal’s Beginning Runner’s Guide can also be found below.
We offer a number of programs to prepare you for triathlons, tough weather, fitness walking, and more. New to running? Try Hal’s Beginning Runner’s Guide.

Cross Country
Many runners who participate in cross country meets are members of a high school or college team and follow the training programs of their coaches. Others run free off-season. And even adult runners can benefit from the patterns of a well-designed “harrier” program, whether they race in the woods or not. Regardless of your current status or racing goals, this might be the training program for you.

Fitness Walking
Many running races also have walking races attached—or “fitness walkers” sometimes line up in the back row and go at their own pace, fast or show. This screen will take you to walking training programs for the 5K or the 10K or the half marathon.
